This April, Cleveland’s Cloud Nothings perform at Union Transfer. The trio will kick of their Here and Nowhere Else tour in Buffalo on April 4th. The tour is in support of the band’s newest album, which is also called Here and Nowhere Else. The album drops just in time for the tour, on April 1st. In the meantime, though, Cloud Nothings have offered up “I’m Not Part of Me,” a track off the upcoming LP.
The band was formed in 2009 by lead singer and guitarist Dylan Baldi. Drummer Jayson Gerycz and bassist TJ Duke would eventually complete the group. Cloud Nothings was signed to Carpark Records in 2010, but at the time it was still a one-man band. In 2011 came the band’s first proper studio release, the self-titled Cloud Nothings album. At the time, the album was described as “another fantastic step forward, though not without some growing pains.” The third album, Attack on Memory, was the first step away from the solo route, with the inclusion of Gerycz and Duke in the writing process for the first time. The band’s 4th album, Here and Nowhere Else, is the highly anticipated follow up to 2012’s Attack on Memory. The new material is being heralded as “every bit as ferocious as what we’ve recently come to expect – only smarter.”
Opening for Cloud Nothings at their Philly show will be Ryley Walker, a singer-songwriter from Chicago. In November, Walker released a 3-song EP entitled The West Wind. With an old-fashioned sound, and “a voice like browned butter,” it’s almost difficult to believe that Walker is only 24 years old. Of his performance style, he says, “I go into another zone. Improvising informs my heart. Singing and playing guitar is just my natural pulse.” Ryley Walker’s debut full-length will be released in April. So keep an eye out for that.
