In yet another rebel statement, Pussy Riot shows that no militia brutality can stop their music and ideas.
Yesterday – Feb 19 – a video that showed how Cossack-led militia brutally beat, pepper sprayed and abused of 3 members of russian punk-rockers Pussy Riot went viral; this all happened while the all-girl band was shooting video for their latest single “Putin Will Teach You How To Love” at Sochi, where the olympic winter games are being held. This location was chosen as a statement from the political band to show the world how, according to reports by Chicago Tribune and Stereogum, the games are “nothing but a PR stunt aimed at distracting the world from human rights abuses”.
The video kicks off in calm documentary-style image of the band members in a cloudy, gray beach sea when – just as their full-speed tunes – mayhem begins: images of them performing the single at different locations of the aforementioned city (including the recognizable 5-ring Olympic symbol) intertwined with footage from the beat down they received yesterday, guide the eyes to lyrics you don’t understand but, somehow, transmit the power and essence of Pussy Riot.
“Putin Will Teach You How Yo Love” is another statement by a band that has become an icon among activists all over the world; a voice for human rights injustices that keep happening in Russia, Ukraine, Pyongyang and more recently Venezuela.
