Jimmy Buffett, a singer/songwriter, author, actor, and businessman, portrays an “island escapism” lifestyle. Jimmy Buffett is a best selling writer, and is involved in two restaurant chains. The restaurants are named after his two top hit singles “Cheese Burger in Paradise” and “Margaritaville.” His hit song “Margaritaville” ranked 234 on the Recording Industry Association of America’s list titled “Songs of the Century.” Jimmy Buffett’s website margaritaville.com states “Margaritaville, a state of mind, is now a state of being. But how did margaritaville come into a state of being? Better yet, how did Margaritaville become a state of mind? How could some guy armed only with writers’ instruments; a pen and a legal pad, create all that is “Margaritaville?””
Buffett has referred to his music style as “Drunken Caribbean Rock ‘n Roll” and “Gulf and Western,” while other music critics have reffered to it as, “tropical languor with country funkiness into what some [have] called the Key West sound, or Gulf-and-Western.” He has played over 40 tours worldwide and counting. He has worked under multiple labels, including Barnaby, Dunhill, MCA, Margaritaville Records, Island, PolyGram, Mailboat and RCA. He has released over 30 albums, 8 of which are Gold Platinums, and an additional 9 are either Platinum or Multi-Platinum. He has received a Country Music Award for his single “It’s 5 O’ Clock Somewhere” with Alan Jackson and George Straight. He was later nominated again for his single “Hey Good Lookin,” which also featured Alan Jackson and George Straight.
Jimmy Buffett’s most recent album, Songs From St. Somewhere, was released in summer of 2013. Reveiws from his previous shows have commented on the kind of crowd Jimmy Buffett attracts. Honolulu’s Pulse quoted, “Buffett crowds often have to be restrained — not from any kind of violence, but from an excess of enthusiasm….” The Chicago Tribune stated “Buffett delivered the goods during his agreeable two-hour show, but in many ways the venue turned out to be unsuited and unprepared for the large crowd he drew.”
In other words, if you plan on attending the show, prepare for a crazy crowd!
