This is shaping up to be a busy summer at The Mann Center! Willie Nelson has announced a stop on June 13th. And he’s bringing along some friends. Also appearing at The Mann with Willie Nelson and Family will be Alison Krauss & Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas. This is the first time that Willie Nelson and Alison Krauss have shared the stage. Completing the bill is newcomer Kacey Musgraves.
Both Nelson and Krauss bring with them decades of experience in the music business. Willie Nelson has a career spanning nearly 60 years and has over 200 albums in his repertoire. He has also acted in over 30 films and has co-authored several books. In addition to that, Nelson has long been known for his work advocating for the use of biofuel and the legalization of marijuana. He released two albums last year. In April, Willie Nelson released Let’s Face the Music and Dance, a collection of songs that Nelson and his sister Bobbie played throughout their careers. In October, he released To All The Girls…, a series of 18 duets featuring Willie Nelson and several of music’s top female vocalists. The album features tourmate Alison Krauss, as well as appearances by Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Norah Jones, Mavis Staples, Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, and others.
Also hitting the stage on June 13th is 27-time Grammy award-winning musician Alison Krauss. Krauss released her first album over 25 years ago, in 1985. She went on to release 16 albums, the last of which was 2011’s Paper Airplane. Krauss has the distinction of having won the most Grammy awards of any female and the second most of any recording artist in the Academy’s history.
Last but not least is rising star Kacey Musgraves. The 25 year old released her first major label album, Same Trailer Different Park, in March of 2013. The album debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 and went on to achieve a great deal of critical acclaim. At the 2014 Grammy Awards, Musgraves captivated an audience of music’s elite and gained the attention of fans spanning many genres. She walked away with an award for Best Country Album and Country Song of the Year, for her song “Merry Go ‘Round.”
