A bittersweet moment, and an absolutely blistering song. “Swarming Funeral Mass” is up, the latest from black metal outfit Twilight. The song comes off their upcoming – and final – album, III: Beneath Trident’s Tomb. Details and song below.
It’s been a rough ride for Twilight recently. Original member Blake Judd’s legal troubles seem to have been the final straw, and the band disbanded, while simultaneously announcing an upcoming album. Odd, but hey, new album.
And what an album it should be. Twilight already had one heck of a members list, comprising of musicians from Isis, Leviathan, and Xasthur, among others – all respected names in the metal world. III: Beneath Trident’s Tomb also saw Sonic Youth added to that list, as original member Thurston Moore climbed aboard. A weird addition to a black metal band, but an awesome one.
Sonic Youth was among the finest noise-rock bands to exist, mixing innovation and technical ability to pump out some of the most beautifully weird songs you’ll ever encounter. His touch is evident on “Swarming Funeral Mass” – check out the static and the guitar work before the vocals start proper, and you’ll see what we mean.
