Squarepusher Announces New Album Music For Robots for April 2014 Release Featuring Robots

UK-based recording artist meets Japanese music robots: a guitarist with 78 fingers and a drummer with 22 arms. New compositional possibilities are waiting for be explored.

In an attempt to create a music-performing system that was beyond the capabilities of even the most advanced musicians, a team of young Japanese roboticists was assembled in the summer of 2013, and created three robots that comprise Z-Machines. The roboticist’s musical producer, Kenjiro Matsuo invited Squarepusher, a UK-based recording artist, to develop music that explores the compositional possibilities of a guitarist with 78 fingers and a drummer with 22 arms.

The first result is “Sad Robots Go Funny”, a poignant and highly praised piece, composed and produced by Squarepusher and performed by Z-Machines. Following up this success, Squarepusher is able to create a whole EP with Z-Machines. The Music For Robots EP will be released on April 8 2014.
