While everyone is busy trying to impress their loved ones, De La Soul shows it’s true love to fans by giving away some freebies, well, actually all their freebies; their entire catalog is out for free download and all you have to do is reach out and say: Yes, Please
A month away from the 25th anniversary of their debut album 3 Feet High and Rising the new york based trio celebrates almost three decades of reinventing alternative hip hop by making all their music available for free. Until 12pm EST tomorrow, everyone who is willing to subscribe to De La’s mailing list can download – can’t stress this enough: for FREE – 3 Feet HIgh and Rising, De La Soul is Dead, Buhloone Mindstate, Stakes is High, AOI: Mosaic Thump and AOI: Bionix, as well as other rarities including instrumentals, remixes and unreleased tracks.
For a long time the band’s music has been banned from the digital music realm because their music includes tons of samples that are not fully licensed. “It’s been a trying journey” De La Soul’s Posdnous said to Rolling Stone:
We’ve been blessed to be in the Library of Congress, but we can’t even have our music on iTunes. We’ve been working very hard to get that solved (…) It’s been too long where our fans haven’t had access to everything, this is our way of showing them how much we love them.
According to Rolling Stone more releases by the group are scheduled soon including new songs in the coming weeks, a six-song EP titled Preemium Soul on the Rocks on March and You’re Welcome, their first full production in 10 years. This is not your typical giveaway, the band is literally giving all they have just because as well as cooking new sounds for this year, now that’s a St. Valentine’s present.
