With Thievery Corporation’s seventh studio album, Saudade, coming out in April, the electronica conglomerate will be hitting the road for a swing of tour dates.
2014 looks to be a prime year for Rob Garza and Eric Hilton, the duo that have founded and maintained Thievery Corporation since 1995, to make preparation for the twenty year anniversary they’ll soon be celebrating.
Saudade, a Portugese word which can be translated as an intense state of nostalgic or melancholic longing, is an album where each track features one of five female vocalists. Also included on the LP are Brazilian percussionist Roberto Santos, Argentine singer/songwriter Federico Aubele and U.N.K.L.E. drummer Michael Lowry.
Garza stated in a recent Wall Street Journal interview that their latest single, “Depth of My Soul,” came about through the following:
It’s kind of inspired by love, but it’s also inspired by psychedelic moments musically from all types of soundtracks. I appreciate a lot of films from that era, just the look, the stylings, the locations, everything.
Such a creative energy will definitely accompany Thievery Corporation as they begin their tour trek – the band gets started at Georgia’s CounterPoint Festival at the end of April, and finishes up with Galactic at the Sugar Mill in New Orleans.
