Gerald Earl Gillum, better known as G-Eazy, is an American rapper, songwriter and producer from Oakland, California.
G-Eazy started gaining fame in 2009 when he won the NAACP Best Music on Campus Woodie. By 2010 G-Eazy was offered to open up for famous rapper, Drake. In 2011, his first two singles, “Waspy” and “Candy Girl,” had over 400,000 plays on MySpace. More recently, G-Eazy has opened up for well known artists, such as Hoodie Allen, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Shwayze, Big Sean, A$AP Rocky, and has even featured the annual summer Warped Tour.
In summer of 2011, G-Eazy released his mixtape The Endless Summer, which is up for free download on his website, along with his newest mixtape, Must Be Nice. The Endless Summer includes a mix of different songs with G-Eazy’s personal twist. His remake of the 1950’s No. 1 hit “Runaround Sue” by Dion Dimucci has gained over 3 million views on YouTube. Without label support, G-Eazy has made his way across the U.S. on multiple tours. Music Media website Earmilk author, Alyce Currier reviewed one of G-Eazy’s shows and stated, “I’m going to go ahead and state, with a certain degree of authoritativeness, that he stole the show. He has that ‘I don’t know what’ that makes someone a ‘firework.’ His interactions with the crowd were seamless and his actual performance was perfection.” The initial venue chosen for the Austin show was too small to handle all of G-Eazy’s fans. The show has been moved to Scoot Inn, and additional tickets are now on sale. Score them while you can!
