Trust, a Canadian synthpop group, demonstrates the alter ego of lead singer Robert Alfons. Robert Alfons started collaborating with Maya Postepski, member of Austra, in 2009. The two have made it clear Trust is more than just a side project of Postepski’s group. After the two started composing music together, they formed Trust in 2010, and signed to Sacred Bones Records.
Trust released its first EP in 2011 with Brooklyn-based Sacred Bones Records titled, “Candy Walls.” Their two singles off the EP were “Candy Walls” and “Bulbform.” By 2012, Trust had signed to a new label, Arts & Crafts Records, and released their debut album TRST. Pitchfork Medias review rated their album a 7.4 out of 10, and stated, “…I quite like Alfons’ voice; it has a slithering, grimy quality to it that increases the raunch-factor on particularly dirty-sounding tracks like “Shoom” and “Bulbform,” and when he struts his stuff on “Sulk” and “Dressed for Space,” he sounds like the kind of personality-heavy singer indie culture’s been hesitant to embrace over the last few years.” Trust is now working on a second studio album, Joyland, with Arts & Crafts Records, which is scheduled to be release in March 2014. Arts & Crafts describes the album as “an eruption of guts, eels, and joy.”
Trust has performed with artists, such as Crystal Castles, Love Affair, Glass Candy and DFA1979. Trust’s performance has been described as, “an outstanding performance proving that they’re an act worthy of all the hype. With a set far past midnight, they’re the perfect ending to a wild night in the city, taking you on a relentless trip through a set list dripping with sexual tension before winding down to the last pulses of the synthesizer” (Critic Luis-Enrique Arrazola of the National Post).
