Great news! SOHN has announced a tour of the UK, Europe, and the US this spring- with his first ever stop in Philly!
On May 8th SOHN will be hitting the stage at Johnny Brenda’s to give us a dose of his brooding electronic soul sound.
The London bred artist is currently based out of Vienna, which could partially explain the feeling we hear in his songs.
The two cities, while very different, seem to emulate the same emotion for SOHN. Sadness. The isolation of the “dark nights” in London coupled with the much slower, quieter Vienna have been said to be the inspiration behind the music.
After generating Internet buzz and finding success with the release of his EP The Wheel, in 2012, SOHN had an even busier 2013. In April, 4AD announced that they had signed SOHN and he subsequently released his first official track with the label, “Bloodflows.” At the time of its release the song was described as “SOHN’s most sorrowful, powerful success yet.” In keeping with the melancholic tone which SOHN has set in his previous work, he gave us “Lessons” in September.
In addition to his own solo material, SOHN has produced such tracks as “Waiting Game” by BANKS and remixes for the likes of Lana Del Rey and Angel Haze. He is expected to release his debut album sometime this year. In the meantime – you can check out the video for “Tempest” an unplugged performance filmed at Vienna’s Casino Baumgarten. The black and white video marks SOHN’s first time stepping in front of the camera. The video’s director, Andreas Waldschuetz, said that he “wanted to capture a performance that is as intimate and delicate as the track itself.” Check it out for yourself here.
