The Vegas bug has struck, yet again, and this time Perry Farrell is the one to succumb to all the pretty lights. Jane’s Addiction will be on ice for the next few years as Farrell develops an ambitious and “immersive” new EDM experience for the Vegas strip.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Farrell shared some of the details of project that he had been teasing the past few months. This project, called Kind of Heaven, is a musical “written with a house sensibility” for the Vegas strip. “If Giorgio Moroder had written a musical,” says Farrell, “it would sound like this.” Funnily enough, Moroder does have Vegas designs of his own, but not in the musical theater direction. The story is apparently set in southern Thailand where his characters, a soldier in love with a female worker, navigate the turmoil of the local drug and sex trades. He has yet to nail down a specific venue or cast (which will not include him), but has already recorded the majority of the music with DJ Joachim Garraud (a frequent David Guetta collaborator). Regardless of these details, this production is going to be quite the venture and quite the experience. Says Farrell:
This is a pretty massive undertaking, so Jane’s Addiction is going to take a hiatus. It’ll be a couple of years before you see Jane’s again.
