Major news from EMA. The noise rock prodigy has announced an early 2014 due date for her next album, The Future’s Void. What’s more, she’s also released a new single from the new album. So Merry Christmas – ya filthy animals.
It’s hard to hit the ground any harder than EMA did back in 2011. Her sophomore album, Past Life Martyred Saints caught the sort of buzz usually reserved for presidential elections and celebrity wardrobe malfunctions. Rolling Stone and The Guardian both pegged her as an artist to watch, so expectations were running hot for her third release. And here it is; we haven’t heard from EMA for some time now, not since her tribute cover of Nirvana’s “Endless, Nameless”, but we didn’t wait in vain.
“Satellites” is breathy, dark, and indescribably intense. An accompanying, minimalist music video cements the impression – The Future’s Void might be one heck of a rough ride. But, hey, it’s EMA, what’d you expect?
