Tinariwen Announce Spring 2014 Tour Dates

Possibly the most internationally famous Tuareg rock band are making their return known with a slew of new North American tour dates this Spring.

The Tinariwen collective was formed in Mali in 1979 and has maintained a largely nomadic existence since with rotating band members. Their latest album, Emmaar, was recorded in Joshua Tree, California and is the first to follow their 2011 full-length Tassili. Tinariwen were honored (despite the inherently arrogant nature of the Academy’s term “World Music”) with a Grammy for their work on Tassili. Their newfound State-side success is apparent in the guest appearances announced for Emmaar, which include Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, Matt Sweeney from Chavez, Nashville fiddler Fats Kaplin, and poet Saul Williams. This Spring will see the group kicking off their tour with their first appearance at SXSW before a solid two months of touring to follow.
