March 25, 2014, will bring an entirely new record from the late Johnny Cash via Columbia/Legacy Records.
The album, entitled Out Among the Stars, is not one of demos or outtakes, but rather “lost” recordings by Cash and some collaborators. Pitchfork reports that there are tracks on the new album featuring Waylon Jennings and June Carter Cash. Though it was only unearthed in 2012 by Cash’s family, Out Among the Stars was recorded partially in 1981 at Columbia Studios in Nashville and partially in 1984 at 1111 Sound Studios.
Johnny Cash’s son, John Carter Cash, helped to restore the album with co-producer/archivist Steve Berkowitz, Carlene Carter, Buddy Miller, Marty Stuart and several others.
