The Head and the Heart, Live at The Wiltern

Los Angeles got out of the cold and heated up at the Wiltern with The Head and the Heart. As soon as they hit the stage the sea of hands were clapping and stomping their feet with the first note of “Shake.” A driven folk beat underlined the night, with another great new hit “Another Story.”

Vocalist and violinist Charity Rose Thielen mentioned how they all looked like Portlanders from their recent show up in Oregon. Guitarist and keyboardist Josiah Johnson, wearing a flannel piece, lead into a fan favorite of “Lost in My Mind,” which had the entire stadium filled with a sing a long crowd. The drummer, Tyler Williams, provided a heavy beat from his kit, along with Chris Zasche on bass to “Winter’s Song,” as vocalist Jonathan Russell knelt down to the floor by the melodic violin. The vocal harmonic trio echoed in the final song “River Roads,” which got everyone in the place on their feet. The encore brought on their new single “Let’s Be Still” that will be this year’s new hit. This soulful folk indie band is a new genre for people to gravitate towards.
