Well, that’s another Kim gone. Kim Shattuck, the replacement for Pixies bassist Kim Deal, has parted ways with the band prior to their 2014 tour. Shattuck will return to her band, the Muffs.
It’s been a rough go of it for the Pixies of late. Founding member Kim Deal’s departure clearly rattled the band, even necessitating some edits to existing material. Even so, they did manage to kick out some new material in EP-1, a four-track teaser album released in Fall 2013. A music video was also released for one of the songs off the EP. Appearances with Shattuck, including one at the El Rey Theater, also followed the launch.
They’ve also managed to fire up a touring schedule. Freezing though this winter has been, the band has a torrid new year ahead of them, with numerous dates through January and February. They will, however, do so without Shattuck, who has released a statement via facebook about her time with the band:
Super disappointed to learn that my time with the Pixies ended today. Amazing experience. Looking forward to focusing my attention back on the Muffs and our upcoming new album. All the best to everyone.
