The Flaming Lips will be offering fans a musical reprieve from Black Friday madness with the release of three albums that same day. One of them comes via the band’s second cassette demo tape, recorded September 14, 1983, and not a single one of its tracks has ever been released before. Now that’s something to be thankful for.
Also, according to The Future Heart, 2000 copies of the tape will have been pressed by Stan Getz, and released on blue 7″ vinyl the day after Thanksgiving – about 20 of them will be designed by Lips cohorts New Fumes. These special 20 will also be packaged with the The Flaming Lips’ “Fuck You Frogs,” the cute little critters that are both a “sound recorder and manipulation frog device,” and come “sitting in frog pee flavored hard candy.” So far, only My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James, Blackwatch Studios engineer Jarod Evans and Tame Impala lead Kevin Parker have received these amphibians as “gifts” from Lips frontman Wayne Coyne, while another sold in two minutes at a Box of Stars auction, and the band will be selling one more at a benefit for Texas artist and musician Nevada Hill.
So definitely keep an eye out for these once the Thanksgiving imbibing has taken a break. Here’s a look at the rare tracks that will be featured on the demo tape, in the meantime:

02. The Future Is Gone
