Members of various contemporary bands are continuing the practice of recreating the ultimate wish-you’d-been-there concert, The Band’s iconic farewell performance, “The Last Waltz”.
According to Rolling Stone, the setlist of the Last Waltz will be played in its entirety this November at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, New York. Performers for the evening will include members of Wilco, Furthur, Guster, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Blitzen Trapper, Delta Spirit and other groups of today, paying tribute to the majesty of that particular evening back in 1976.
The original “Last Waltz” was a farewell concert by The Band, Bob Dylan’s ex-backing band, at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco (a similar tribute concert took place at the Warfield in San Francisco last year). The evening was immortalized in Martin Scorcese’s documentary of the same name which featured the group and their numerous guest performers which included Paul Butterfield, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Emmylou Harris, Ringo Starr, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, Ronnie Wood, Neil Diamond and Eric Clapton.
The recreation, entitled The Complete Last Waltz, will take place November 27 with tickets on sale now.
