The Austin based band is offering a taste of things to come with their surprisingly heavy single “Black Stone”.
Ume is a three-piece whose material generally falls somewhere between indie, shoegaze and full-on rock. Frontwoman Lauren Larson’s soft pop vocals wander over her overdriven guitar riffage in a way that is not at all incongruous. The band has attracted the attention of music critics across the board and even the food critic Anthony Bourdain, who championed them with an appearance on his show, No Reservations. The group’s upcoming album, to be released in 2014, will follow their 2011 full-length debut, Phantoms. We can only hope that the intensity of “Black Stone” carries through the rest of the album.
