Members of Norwegian black metal group Ulver and Seattle-based drone metal outfit Sunn O))) last worked together ten years ago, on a track for the latter’s box set WHITEbox. They’ve now reunited for the three-track recording Terrestials, due out February 2014 via Southern Lord Records.
WHITEbox, a 3-disc reissue of Sunn O)))’s albums White1 and White2, featured the Ulver-produced track “CutWOODED,” a song of tribute to deceased director Ed Wood.
Since then, each band has released a mess of albums, EPs and other music, and both have undergone various style changes to help define what they’re known as today. The last album from the Sunn O))) camp, Monoliths and Dimensions, came to us in 2009, while Ulver graced us a with Messe I.X-VI.X earlier this year. What both band’s recent contributions to music has shown us, in terms of how their collaboration will sound, is yet to be seen, but a recent press release from the groups promises fans the unraveling of the story behind the pending Terrestials over the course of this next month. Stay tuned to the websites for Ulver and Sunn O))) for more details.
