More Nirvana mania. It’s been a little more than 20 years since In Utero, their third and final studio album was released, and the spotlight has flicked back around to the Seattle icons. Los Angeles rock outfit Dead Sara recently paid their respects with a pair of excellent “Heart Shaped Box” covers.
It’s not easy to do justice to a Nirvana song. Honestly, who could follow an act like Cobain? Love him or hate him, it’s close to impossible to imitate him. Dead Sara had a damn good shot at it though – their electric cover of “Heart Shaped Box” is furious and shockingly accurate.
They’ve also gone ahead and put their own spin on the song. The band also released a second, acoustic cover. It’s as haunting as the first is explosive. Put the two together, and they’re a loyal, and very heartfelt echo back to the final days of Nirvana. Check both videos out below.
In Utero has received an incredible amount of attention of late, thanks in large part to a packed, big-box format reissue of the album. There’s been some cover mania as well, as Deer Tick recently went through the entire album.
