Beloved Cuban musical collective Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club are bidding farewell with a final world tour which will take place the summer of 2014 through fall 2015.
The Buena Vista Social Club are finally saying goodbye after 16 years of bringing traditional Cuban music around the globe. Catapulted to fame following the release of a self-titled album with American guitarist Ry Cooder and subsequent Academy Award nominated documentary of the same name, the skilled musicians from Havana, Cuba have been going non-stop in various incarnations since 1997.
The Orquesta’s lineup has changed over the years, but a few original musicians featured in the documentary will take part in the farewell tour: trumpeter Guajiro Mirabal, singer/guitarist Eliades Ochoa, and Barbarito Torres on laud. The current group is a mix of veteran and younger performers under the musical direction of Jesus Aguaje Ramos. The concerts will feature local guests, and the musicians will also take part in some master classes at local schools and universities along the way. Everything will culminate in an undoubtedly epic homecoming finale in Havana, Cuba.
