Doyle – Abominator

Doyle Remembers Halloween

Just in time for the Halloween season, ex-Misfits guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein has released his debut record under the name Doyle, Abominator, for when horror punk just isn’t enough to satisfy all your spooky, October-time needs. Including other former members of the Misfits, Doyle is a great band for fans looking for something a little heavier, though there’s no doubt you’ll still be able to hear that easily recognizable horror sound. While listeners who aren’t looking for something with a heavy metal influence may not enjoy Abominator, it definitely will appeal to more extreme hardcore and metal fans.

The album starts with the title track, opening with a scream that will launch you right out of your seat, get your head banging and prepare you for the onslaught of heaviness that is to come. Lyrically, Doyle’s songs could be ripped straight from the Misfits anthology, in the best possible way. A great example of this is the song “CemeterySexxx” — because what’s more Misfits-y than talking about having sex in a cemetery? Nothing, that’s what. Another track that really blends Doyle’s heavier sound with a Danzig-esque melodic chorus and grim lyrical style is “DreamingDeadGirls,” with lines like “the quickest way to her heart is to cut through her fucking chest,” how can you go wrong?

While it has its moments of not-unexpected cheese, Doyle’s Abominator will make a great soundtrack for your metal-heavy Halloween party and get you prepared for the darkness and gloom of the winter to come. For fans of the Misfits, heavy metal listeners looking for an album to blast as they attempt to scare everybody, or any punk looking for a soundtrack to their spooky rager, Abominator is sure to fit your Halloween plans just right.
