Midlake continue to evolve and hone their sound with their latest album, Antiphon, whose title track gets a shiny new music video.
The ex-music school Texans are busy this month with the release of Antiphon on November 5th and the ensuing tour dates. After lead vocalist/songwriter Tim Smith left, the group decided to shelve two years of material and forge the album anew. The resulting work demonstrates the band at its dreamiest and progiest. “It’s always through the scope of Midlake,” says new frontman Eric Pulido, “but on Antiphon we wanted to embrace the psychedelia, style and nuance you might hear in bands from yesteryear while also being aware of music influences leading up to and present now. The result was less folk and more rock. Less nostalgic and more progressive. Now the sky’s the limit.”
The music video for “Antiphon” is certainly channeling the spirit of the era defined by psychedelia and admirably enhances the experience. Midlake will be touring almost nonstop this Winter, and will open for Pearl Jam on two of their scheduled dates (listed below).
