It looks like Slayer aren’t going to make us beg for their classic material on their tour this Fall; they’ve explicitly stated their intent to give it to us.
This last year has been extremely tumultuous for the thrash metal titans with the passing of guitarist Jeff Hanneman in May, and the departure of drummer Dave Lombardo. With all these changes, perhaps it makes sense to return to playing the classics that built their career. Material for the set will be taken from Show No Mercy (1983), Hell Awaits (1985), Reign In Blood (1986), South of Heaven (1988) and Seasons in the Abyss (1990). “The final set list is still coming together,” said Araya, “but we’re going to give the fans what amounts to ‘decades of aggression.’ It’s going to be a great night of music and moshing for everyone.” Despite the promise of good times to be had, these tour dates were scheduled far in advance and so Araya has recently mentioned in interviews the need for the band to discuss their direction in light of Hanneman’s death.
