It’s understandable if you don’t immediately recognize Neneh Cherry’s name. Not because she never made it big, but mostly because she peaked and faded before a decent slice of our readers were even born.
Even those who don’t know Cherry may recognize her song “Buffalo Stance”. It came out in 1989, shot up the international charts – making it to first on the US dance charts. Give it a listen, and if you find yourself forcibly reminded of MC Hammer don’t be surprised, it’s just the territory we’re dealing with here. While she has released work in collaboration with other artists as recently as 2013 with CirKus, the upcoming album is set to be her first solo production since Man in 1996.
The newest album features some seriously high-profile help. Kieran Hebden, better known as Four Tet, has produced the LP – the UK musician has past collaborations with the likes of Thom Yorke under his belt. Also exciting is the guest appearance of Swedish megastar Robyn. London duo RocketNumberNine are also among the collaborators.
