The King of Hellbilly is at it Again!
Hank Williams is country; his lineage is, therefore he is. However, this self-proclaimed Hellbilly is a long cry from the legacy his grandpa or even his own pa laid. Hank3, as he’s now known, has his own strange quality of country, punk and metal. With several titles under his belt, Hank3 has proven to be a heavy weight when it comes to producing music and touring year after year. Hank Williams the third has always had a well known distaste for traditional methods in commercial music, and with his own “natural born right” into the country music world, Hank3 left it all behind. Looking just like his granddad and voicing opinions as powerfully as his father, Hank3 is a revolutionary threat. That is more apparent than ever with his newest release, A Fiendish Threat, which is part of an action-packed triple release (peek at our review of the double country album, Brothers of the 4X4, here).
Hank3 is forever transitioning. His tours often show the progression of music; he has a country sound, a psychobilly sound and an Assjack punk sound. His impatience for the mundane and typical are proven at his live performances. When arriving to his show, you can expect the life of an old radio: tune in, drop out, get bored, change the station to something spryer, and finally end the night with the destructive sounds of Assjack.
Signature vocal distortion is what Hank3 is all about. He’s got deep punk rhythms and delivery. Still a little country and a little rock and roll, tracks like “Watchin U Suffer” and “Face Down” bring the heavy elements of both his signature and history. The title track is a great example of what Hank has in mind for his punk endeavor and it is just like all his other work. Whatever or whomever he may be in country, metal or punk-– he is a King of some kind of Hell.
The progress that Hank3 has made since his debut in the early 90’s has been consistent. While he maintains heavy country roots, his punk background is strong as ever, too. A Fiendish Threat is a combination of these two– some call it punkerbilly, some call it cowpunk, but to his fans he is the King of Hellbilly. Entirely self produced, recorded and published off his own label in his own home, Hank3 is ready to unleash a new kind of Hell.
