Look over the bands signed for the Housecore Horrorfest this year, and you’ll quickly start to notice categories. Some of our favorites follow. First, we have bands who sound like units from some real time strategy game – Goblin, Pig Destroyer, Warbeast, Band of Orcs, and Headcrusher. And then we have bands that sound like the weapons those units would use: Crowbar, Primitive Weapons, Bloody Hammers, Star and Dagger. Finally, we have a band that looks like those units. Thank god for GWAR. We’re calling it Goatcraft – coincidentally the name of yet another band at the festival.
Gotta love metal band names, even more so when the bands behind them are as good as these. The Housecore lineup just keeps getting better and better, with the addition of seminal metal/punk outfit The Melvins. Also worth knowing – Eyehategod now has a drummer. Dale Crover of the Melvins has offered to step up and fill the gap left by the tragic death of Joey LaCaze.
The powers-that-be behind the festival issued a short statement over the addition through some guy named Phil Anselmo, one of the organizers.
“In the wake of severe tragedy, with Eyehategod drummer Joey LaCaze passing away recently, Melvins drummer Dale Crover will be filling in for an unforgettable alliance with EHG! Dammit, you KNOW you have to see this unique performance! If you don’t have a ticket to the HHFF, get one ASAP to witness this historic event. It’ll be historic on so many levels!”
Yep, that’s right. Former Pantera frontman Anselmo is the man behind the mayhem. Anselmo himself has plans for an appearance with new band The Illegals, who recently released Walk Through Exits Only earlier this Summer, the supporting tour for which wrapped up last month.
In any event, it’s good to see such a high-powered addition, not that the Horrorfest needed it, and good to see Crover stepping in for LaCaze. Stay tuned, metal fans, this one’s going to get ugly in all the right ways.
