So, Islands has a new album out, and some folks are pretty excited about it. Mostly just former band-members, bandwaggoners, and degenerates though. Seriously, who wants to see a coked-out recording engineer gibber about the band?
…except when he’s Rich Fulcher. Damn straight, that guy you may remember as “smashed dude from Drunk History” (not that there aren’t a few options for that label) is just one of a star-studded cast in a new mockumentary promoting recent Islands album Ski Mask. Pathologically awkward former bandmate Teddy Roosevelt? Actually just Michael Cera, naturally, though this one is actually sort of true. At least more so than some of the others, Cera did partner up with Islands frontman Nick Thorburn in the short-lived indie “supergroup” Mister Heavenly. Alia Shawkat also makes an appearance, along with Bill Hader and Joe Lo Truglio. Does any of this have anything to do with the music? No, not really. Is it hilarious? Yep. Check the video out below.
Well, not that there’s not some truth to the hype. You may not soil yourself (as Cera claims), and we can’t vouch for any suicide-preventing properties of the album, but man, we sure do love us some Ski Mask. Give it a listen if you haven’t already. Not that we normally recommend emulating celebrities, but we’ll green-light it just this once.
