Luscious Jackson Announce First New Music in 14 Years via Crowd-Funded Album Magic Hour Set for November 2013 Release

While it may have been 14 years since Luscious Jackson released any new music, it’s clear their fans never stopped loving them. Especially since it was the fans who helped finance the band back into action.

Jill Cunniff, Gabby Glaser, and Kate Schellenbach, the remaining founders of Luscious Jackson, announced back in 2000 the band was calling it quits so they could focus more on their families. But then they stirred up excitement in 2006 by releasing word they would be reuniting to record an album of kids songs. By that fall they had eleven tracks ready to go, but no record label to release it. And that’s the last the public heard on completion of the album.

Cunniff and Glaser would instead go on to release solo albums for themselves, and nothing more was said of the band’s reunion until 2012, when Rolling Stone revealed Luscious Jackson had gotten back together the year prior, and were working on a new album.

More recently, the band decided to use PledgeMusic, a site where fans donate money for certain artists to make music, to see how badly their fanbase wanted the next album, and the response was enormous. The pledge goal Luscious Jackson had posted was passed within 48 hours, and with the money they went right back to work on new music. Today we learn the record, Magic Hour, was produced by Cunniff and Glaser, along with a bit of help from their Beastie Boy pal Adam Horovitz – lest we not forget Schellenbach was the fourth Beastie for a minute, before joining up with Luscious Jackson.

Magic Hour, now the band’s fourth album, will be released November 5th, and the group has already released a sampling of it with their new song “Show Us What You Got” – take a listen for yourself, below.
