Time to Dance to the Music – again. Got that right, we’re hearing new material from Sly and the Family Stone for the first time in, well, a long time. The seminal rock/soul/etc outfit has released the previously unheard song “Fortune and Fame”, read on for details.
It’s a little surprising that it took this long for “Fortune and Fame” to show up. An unreleased outtake from the band’s first major success, 1968’s Dance to the Music (yes, it has that one song on it), “Fortune and Fame”, with its tinkling pianos and lounge-singer rhymes seem right in line with the band’s groundbreaking blend of musical genres.
Fans of Sly and the Family Stone were probably plenty excited even before the new release. Higher, the band’s enormous, all-inclusive box set, is due out next Tuesday. More goodies are inbound, including 16 other previously unreleased tracks. Give “Fortune and Fame” a listen while you wait.
