In anticipation of their new film “Inside Llewyn Davis”, Joel and Ethan Cohen, the brother team that brought us such cult classics as “Burn After Reading,” “Fargo,” and “The Big Lebowski” are throwing a benefit concert in New York City, featuring such talents as Jack White, Marcus Mumford, and Patti Smith.
The concert, dubbed, “Another Day, Another Time: Celebrating the Music of “Inside Llewyn Davis,” will be held at New York’s Town Hall on September 29. Illustrious names in the music and film industry such as Joan Baez, Rhiannon Giddens (of the Carolina Chocolate Drops), Conor Oberst, Punch Brothers, The Secret Sisters, Gillian Welch, Lake Street Dive, Colin Meloy (of The Decemberists), The Milk Carton Kids, and The Avett Brothers have signed on to play a night of 1960’s folk music to celebrate the era in which the film takes place.
The concert is being produced by T Bone Burnett, who produced the soundtrack for the film, as well as the Cohen Brother’s classic, “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?” Songs from and inspired by the soundtrack of “Inside Llewyn Davis”, set to be released on Nonesuch Records on Nov. 12, will be featured in this star-studded event. Stars from the film will perform music from the soundtrack at the event, including John Goodman, Carey Mulligan, Stark Sands, and Oscar Issac (who plays the film’s title character). This soundtrack is the fourth collaboration between Burnett and the Cohen Brothers, and also features as pop-superstar-turned-actor Justin Timberlake, who appears in the film, but is not reported to perform at the event.
As The New York Times has reported, the film is based loosely on the real life of folk musician Dave Van Ronk. The story is centered on struggling young guitarist/folk singer in Greenwich Village in 1961. Take a look at the official trailer for the film:
