It was a tweet that made the hip hop world stop in its tracks. Saturday afternoon, Stephen Hill, BET’s President of Programming and Specials posted a Tweet relaying a conversation between himself and André 3000 that the OutKast artist will be dropping a solo album early next year.
The news undoubtedly has fans waiting with bated breath, as this will be the first solo album from the famed rapper. However, according to a report from Billboard.com, a representative of André 3000 has stated, “there is no official confirmation on that report.” The Tweet, however, is nothing less than titillating.
Me: hey what's up? You got the movie coming, right? Andre 3000: yeah…and I got a solo album coming top of the year. Me:*droptofloor*

In 2003, OutKast released a double album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, which featured the individual talents of Antwan “Big Boi” Patton on Speakerboxxx and André 3000 on The Love Below. The intention was to release the album(s) highlighting each member’s unique sound, but the album was released under the name OutKast and therefore was not a true solo album for either artist. According to consequenceofsound.net,
In an interview with Billboard last year, André said he was in no rush to record an album. “Some days I feel like I’ll do it, some days I don’t. Some days I feel like I don’t need to, some days I feel like I want to do it before I die. So, I don’t know where to fall. I am just hoping one day I get that inspiration.”
Perhaps the inspiration has come from the film he is starring in. The movie being referred to is a film called, “All Is By My Side,” a Jimmy Hendrix biopic set to premier at the Toronto Film Fest this September.
For now, all fans can do is hope that the Tweet turns out to be more than just speculation and that soon, an official announcement will be made.
