Brooklyn indie rockers TV On The Radio released a stream of their new song “Mercy” today on Soundcloud. It is the first piece of new material they’ve put out since their 2011 album Nine Types of Light.
Earlier this year the band announced that they had parted ways with Interscope and moved to Federal Prism, the boutique label founded by TVOTR member Dave Sitek as a way to promote music as art and inspiration instead of the commodity it has become. As part of their philosophy, tracks from all bands on the label, which includes Oh Land, Cerebral Ballzy and CSS among others, will be released streaming on Soundcloud a number of weeks before their official street release date. The Latest is TVOTR’s “Mercy.”
The band debuted “Mercy” earlier this year in May at the UK’s All Tomorrow’s Parties festival. Though there has been no talk of plans for a fifth album, they have recorded another (as yet unreleased) single, “Million Miles,” which is set to come out in the near future.
