Sumerian Records just signed Los Angeles rock band Lesser Key, whose membership includes Tool’s founding bassist, Paul D’Amour. Lesser Key collaborated with director Brian Butler (of The Black Lips’ “Modern Art”) to produce a nudity-filled music video for debut single “Intercession,” revving up the hype for their Sylvia-Massy-produced EP looking towards a late-2013 release.
It was apparently love at first sight, according to Sumerian founder Ash Avildsen: “Lesser Key’s songwriting and passion for their craft immediately mesmerized me upon discovering them. Rock music needs a band like this right now: a hypnotic candle amidst neon lights.” The band offered a complimentary retort:
“It is exciting working with a label like Sumerian because they are willing to try new things. Most of the bands they choose to work with usually have a different flavor or progressive element to them that’s not typical of other bands. We are excited to add to the diversity of the roster with our artistry and music.”

In related news, Paul D’Amour’s other project Feersum Ennjin, which has been his musical moniker of choice since 2005, appears to have been abandoned for at least the time being, its Facebook page having not been updated since June 2012.
