Ever heard of the high-place phenomenon? If you haven’t, it’s that feeling you may have gotten around high points – namely, the urge to toss yourself off of them. I’m applying that logic to the Cover art for “Whales and Leeches”. I can’t look at it without feeling compelled to get it tattooed across my shoulder blades, despite the messy consequences.
Look. At. That. Play “count the animals” for a bit, I’ll wait. Back? Good, because so is Red Fang. Known for their potent, melodic music – and their highly successful viral videos, the hirsute Oregonians are ready to release their third album Whales and Leeches this October.
Building on a strong 2009 eponymous debut, and a stronger 2011 effort, Murder the Mountains, Red Fang has been going no place but up. The band has opened at Mayhem Festival, accompanied Mastodon for American and European Tours, and, more recently, played at Australian extravaganza Soundwave.
