Sparked by a special performance at the Guggenheim last year, Zola Jesus is hitting the road with Australian industrial producer/composer J.G. Thirlwell and the Mivos String Quartet. The ten Fall dates will cover both coasts, wrapping up at Asheville, North Carolina’s Mountain Oasis festival.
After their performance together at the Guggenheim, the Russian-American operatic vocalist recruited Thirlwell (also know by the alias Foetus) to collaborate on her new album, Versions, due out late next month. Thirlwell, who is currently composing the score for Cartoon Network’s Venture Bros., arranged the songs on Versions for strings, one aspect of the more stripped down, bare bones sound Jesus has been heading towards the last couple years. Luckily for fans, the composer and musicians will join Jesus on tour to exactly recreate the atmospheric, more classical album.
