Pearl Jam surprised the audience at Chicago’s Wrigley Field to the world premiere of two new songs off their new album Lightening Bolt.
Seven songs in at Friday nights performance in Chicago, Pearl Jam had to postpone the much awaited concert for 3 hours due to an extreme amount of rain. However, when they returned to the stage at approximately midnight, they surprised the crowd by letting them witness the first performance of two singles including title track “Lightening Bolt” and “Future Days.”
Much anticipated album Lightening Bolt is set to be released October 15, 2013. In celebration of their new album, the legendary band has also announced their Fall 2013 Tour Dates.
Single “Lightening Bolt” comes across with eclectic guitar riffs and rhythms which brings this song to life. Unlike its name suggests, the piece is upbeat with a sense of sincerity in the lyrics. As the album’s lead single, it does the band justice by bringing forth a light melody but still maintaining Mike McCready’s strong vocals.
The honest lyrics brought forth by single “Future Days” brings a different tone altogether. Completely opposite its counterpart “Lightening Bolt,” the calming demeanor of “Future Days” is brought out with Pearl Jam producer Brendan O’Brien’s meditative work on the keys. This beautiful ballad shows a softer side to Pearl Jam with pensive qualities.
The surprising performance of these new singles hints Pearl Jam isn’t finished with their insightful talents. Stay tuned for all things future Pearl Jam.
