Nine Inch Nails Release Four Separate Album Art Covers for New Album Hesitation Marks Set for September 2013 Release

Mixed media artist Russell Mills designs the visual element of Nine Inch Nails’ upcoming Hesitation Marks, contributing four evocative album covers, one for each respective media format, among a total of 30 unique pieces created for the behemoth project.

Digital cover: “Turn And Burn.”

Standard CD cover: “Time And Again.”

Deluxe CD cover: “Cargo In The Blood.”

Vinyl cover: “Other Murmurs.”

Mills is an absolute veteran in the field of cover art: his graphic compositions appear on works by musicians and writers alike, from Brian Eno and Peter Gabriel to Samuel Beckett and Ian McEwan, among many others. In correspondence with NIN leader Trent Reznor, Mills discussed the sounds and concepts behind Hesitation Marks, digesting them to produce sympathetically bold visual statements. “I’ve tried to make works that obliquely allude to the essence of the subject matter, to its emotional core,” he writes. More information on the formulation of the artwork is available via NIN’s website.

All this adds up to a big year of big names and big releases for the industrial music tycoons, who are preparing for an enormous Fall 2013 Tour which kicks off later this month. Meanwhile, Hesitation Marks‘ first single, “Came Back Haunted,” received an epileptic nightmare of music video courtesy of David Lynch, as the hype machine careens towards ultimate release on September 3.
