An Uncannily Good Album
Alright, everyone hold up. Put down your briefcase; don’t grab that beach towel just yet, and for God’s sake—Starbucks can wait! The boys from down-under, Midnight Juggernauts, have released a brand spanking-new album titled Uncanny Valley, and it’s as good as this summer is hot (if it hasn’t been too bad for you, come to Jersey and then you’ll get it).
The fellas of Midnight Juggernauts have been providing quality alternative dance music since 2004, releasing through their own label, Siberia Records. Their last release in 2010, The Crystal Axis, was well received by critics and the tour hosted a number of sold-out shows. Luckily, Uncanny Valley has the chops to keep that swell going.
The album as a whole is bouncy and fun, with each song possessing a distinct sound. The first track, “HCL,” sounds like an evening at Coney Island—weird, mystical, a little grimy and scary. “Ballad of the the War Machine” sounds like some funky ’70s disco, while “Memorium” could be a Bowie original. Each song, though, makes you want to be in a thick crowd of people, beer in hand, dancing like mad…or at the very least doing that really great seated-at-the-computer dance you have going on. The only downside to the album is that it leaves the listener wanting more in a good way—like the audience screaming “one more song,” after a show.
Uncanny Valley is an uncannily great album. There’s enough beat to get you moving and enough variety to keep it interesting. Midnight Juggernauts have set the bar high for their art and they continue to vault over it with relative ease. So before you head to work, the beach, the coffee shop, or wherever the day may take you, be sure to check out a great album from an interesting band.
