New M.I.A. Documentary Featuring Kanye West and Diplo Leaked, Has Since Been Removed After Director Quits Project

A takedown notice by the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) replaces the teaser trailer for M.I.A. documentary, which featured archival footage and interviews with M.I.A., Diplo, Kanye West, Switch, and others, despite being leaked by the film’s director Steve Loveridge.

It was a year ago when English recording artist Mathangi Arulpragasam, A.K.A. M.I.A., announced that work was underway on a documentary. After the takedown, she announced via Twitter, “”im gonna need @kickstarter and my fans to help make this exist , ive been black listed through normal channels !!!!!!!” According to Pitchfork, this is likely because the film was being blocked from release, with respect to the marketing machine for M.I.A.’s upcoming album Matangi and her festival performances. In an email exchange made public on the director’s Tumblr, Loveridge expressed his distaste for the handling of the situation, informing a Roc Nation representative in no uncertain terms that he would be quitting the project:
