Rick Rubin Says There “Might Be” a Yeezus Sequel

Who better to instigate a juicy rumor about Kanye West’s recent, highly-controversial Yeezus album than its executive producer? According to Rick Rubin there just might be 100% more Yeezus on the horizon.

In a recent interview with the Daily Beast, internationally acclaimed producer Rick Rubin disclosed that Kanye originally intended for his much-discussed, sixth number-one selling album, Yeezus, to be a womping 16 tracks. At Rubin’s suggestion, however, Kanye decided to limit Yeezus to ten tracks, and potentially release a sequel to the album at a later date:

But that first day, before he even asked me to work on it, I said, ‘Maybe you should make it more concise. Maybe this is two albums. Maybe this is just the first half,’ to which Kanye excitedly said, ‘That’s what I came here today to hear! It could be 10 songs!’

Now, if you’re a diehard Kanye fan, this just might be the best news you’ve heard all day. If, however, you fall among those who find the rapper’s lyrics questionable at best, you will be pleased to learn that, although there is plenty of material for a second album, “Kanye is known to create loads of material in the making of every album that never sees the light of day.” Kanye’s motto may bring some light to the ambiguity of the matter:

I got a new strategy, it’s called no strategy. And I got a way to sell more music, it’s called make better music.

When asked to provide insight as to his experience serving as Yeezus’ executive producer, Rubin disclosed that he was shocked to learn the amount of time Kanye had allowed himself to finish the record. As stated by Rubin, “I assumed that the album was scheduled to come out next year…. and he said, ‘It’s coming out in five weeks.'” When Kanye was asked to describe what it was like to work with Rubin, he stated,

Last, but not least that came and helped bring this whole shit together, that executive produced the album with me and the family, is Rick Rubin coming in and like finishing up the whole shit for us, which is legendary because everything we did on this project, everything I did, like when we released ‘Numbers on the Board’, from the video, to the no artwork, to the style of the song and everything, I was like ‘what would Rick Rubin do.’ What was his Def Jam shit that they would do because I remember Rick even saying, he said ‘when we did Def Jam we really wasn’t feeling like we was in competition with nobody body because our shit was so direct… ‘where we at right now?’ We in the middle of the city right now, open to the muthafuckin’ streets and nobody is shuttin’ down shit while we make real music. “So I had to go to the god Rick Rubin and play him my shit, ask him questions and allow him to take this project to an entirely new level. And he made a lot of great decisions at the end and pulled it to a new level.

Kanye then waxed poetic as to a topic that trended on Twitter for almost a week: the meaning of the album’s name. As stated by the rapper,

West was my slave name and Yeezus is my god name.

So there you have it: the album produced by god and written by a god might have a sequel. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
