Cali’s aptly named Whirr sucks you into their shoegaze wall of sound the minute you turn on their record. Sloshly, swirled-up, and sludgy guitars wrap themselves around an undercurrent of sticky sweet vocals, and melody, broken only by the ‘crash-crash-crash’ of the drums. As with most music that finds itself under the genre umbrella, it must be prescribed live for best results.
