Singer-actress Soko, who hails from France, has released a tranquil and beautiful new short film. Shot entirely on VHS, Monster Love, was almost entirely inspired by the music and persona of Ariel Pink and the title track features a remarkable duet with Soko and Pink.
The film was shot in Los Angeles and details the surreal, fantastical story of a monster trying desperately to seduce a mermaid. Soko plays the third aspect of the love triangle, another monster who successfully wins the mermaid’s affections and leaves the other hopelessly heartbroken. The film is whimsical and imaginative while also visually stunning, and opens with the title track, a collaborative effort between Ariel Pink and Soko.
