Following Sonic Youth co-founders Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore’s separation a few years back, Gordon began work with guitarist Bill Nace on the noise rock project Body/Head. The duo have now announced they will be sharing their work via the double album Coming Apart, set for release September 10 via Matador Records.
Gordon and Moore, considered pioneers for their founding of the experimental and indie-leaning Sonic Youth, were married in 1984, and remained close for years, producing a daughter in 1994. Amidst rumors Moore had been seeing another woman, however, the couple announced late in 2011 they would be separating.
Since then Gordon has been busy at work on the Body/Head project, and the upcoming release is said to be somewhat of a style departure from her previous work. Matador has released a statement that refers to Gordon’s vocals as an “intrinsic part of their musical architecture”, and a recent Rolling Stone article has stated Gordon as saying:
It feels a little like rebuilding or starting over in some way, but I have a whole kind of vocabulary of music and experiences to bring to that. It’s just music — just more music.
