Mark Lanegan has just released the stream of John Cale’s song “I’m Not the Loving Kind.” This song is from his upcoming covers album Imitations scheduled to release in September 2013 via Vagrant Records. Lanegan’s latest project follows the May 2013 collaboration with English guitarist Duke Garwood for the studio album Black Pudding.
Since the 2012 release of Mark Lanegan’s critically-acclaimed album, Blues Funeral, Lanegan has followed up with an impressive studio collaboration. In May 2013, Mark and English guitarist Duke Garwood released their album Black Pudding via Ipecac Recordings. More recently, a stream from the upcoming September 2013 covers album, Imitations, has been getting attention from critics and fans. The stream is for the cover track of John Cale’s song “I’m Not the Loving Kind” off the upcoming album. The stream features a soulful and dreamy musical composition decorated by the rustic and mellow vocals from Lanegan. The album was inspired by his roots for his love of great music, along with several albums and collaborations with groups like Queens of the Stone Age. Mark Lanegan has definitely added another gem to his body of work with Imitations.
“When I was a kid in the late sixties and early seventies, my parents and their friends would play the records of Andy Williams, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Perry Como, music with string arrangements and men singing songs that sounded sad whether they were or not. At home my folks were also listening to country music, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, George Jones and Vern Gosdin were some of our favorites. For a long time I’ve wanted to make a record that gave me the same feeling those old records did, using some of the same tunes I loved as a kid and some that I’ve loved as I have gotten older. This record is it. Imitations.”
