Shortly after releasing their Fall 2013 tour dates, Majical Cloudz have released the official video for “Bugs Don’t Buzz”. Director Gordon Von Steiner was able to take an abstract idea thought up by Majical Cloudz’ own Devon Welsh, and turn it into a visual masterpiece.
Just last week, Majical Cloudz’ debut of Impersonator was nominated for a Polaris Prize, and they are already making some new releases. As their days of touring with and supporting Grizzly Bear come to an end, they have released the video for “Bugs Don’t Buzz” off Impersanator. It may seem strange at first, but as this video goes on, many themes and symbols begin to develop.
The video itself helps define the song, as it incorporates many nature shots and examples of subtle beauty. Both being artists of different medias, Devon Welsh of Majical Cloudz and Gordon Von Steiner put their eccentric minds together to create the video of “Bugs Don’t Buzz”.
Welsh’s intention was to “[paint] a picture that is abstract but clear in its emotional intentions.” He translated his ideas to Von Steiner, who formed them into strange and unique concepts, while adding his own creativity and forms of visual imagery. “The rest of the imagery followed from the original concept of trying to remove humanity from the video’s frame of reference”, says Welsh.
