Dave Lombardo Learns Online of Slayer’s Decision to Tour Without Him

Slayer has been going through a lot of lineup changes lately. Unfortunately, Dave Lombardo was one of the last ones to find out about these changes.

After the announcements were made online,  Lombardo tweeted,

And…there you have it folks!

Prompted by fan questions on Twitter, Lombardo revealved that he learned of the lineup change the same time and way everyone else did – by reading the news online.

Lombardo had been missing from the band’s recent Australian tour due to a contract dispute. He stated, just before Hanneman’s tragic passing, that the negotiations lasted for two and half years. Ultimately, Jon Dette of Anthrax and Testament filled in for him on the tour.

Lombardo has been very open about the situation, stating,

It’s a little complicated, and there’s more to it as well. But I’m trying [to work it out with the guys so I can return to the band]. I sent an e-mail out to Kerry [guitarist] and Tom [bassist/vocalist] before I left on this tour [with PHILM]. I said, ‘Guys, let’s work this out like men. C’mon. Let’s work it out. The history of the band is gonna fall apart. The fans are gonna be disappointed. We need to do this for the history of the band; it’s something we need to keep together.’ And I have heard no reply; they have not contacted me.

They feel that because I left in 1992 and I left for 10 years, they feel I don’t deserve [to know all the details of their business].

I mean, I love the guys — they’re like my brothers — and I wish this didn’t happen. But now there’s like this wall between us.

The rest of Slayer may not share the same sentiments however. Kerry shared back in March that he wasn’t comfortable moving forward with Lombardo.

Lombardo remains open to rejoining the band but has made it clear that money is part of being a musician.

Fans can only hope for a complete lineup at some time in the future.
