It is with a heavy heart that we announce the popular soul singer Sharon Jones has been diagnosed with cancer, leading to the cancellation of tour plans and an album release planned for 2013.
Jones has sadly been diagnosed with stage-one bile duct cancer and will be receiving surgery shortly. Luckily, doctors were able to catch the disease at an early state before it could spread. It is expected that Jones will make a full comeback with completion of the surgery, however, this will call for a rather lengthy recovery time.
Unfortunately, this will cause the cancellation of Jones’ upcoming album Give The People What They Want that was expected to be released on August 6, 2013.
The much loved band expects to be back and on their feet performing for their loyal fans as soon as possible.
Jones has very much adapted the “down, but not out” mentality stating:
“Over the last few weeks I haven’t felt good and I didn’t know what was going on. We sadly had to cancel shows while I went through a series of tests and short hospital stays. We just found out that I have a stage-one tumor on my bile duct. Luckily we caught it really early and fast and the doctors say it’s operable and curable!
I will be having surgery very soon and will have to rest and recover. I’ll be staying in touch and keeping my fans and friends updated on my progress. I’m looking forward to getting back on the road to give the people what they want!”
Quite literally, Sharon will be unable to “Give The People What They Want” this year. Until the new release date for this album is released, we will all be anxiously awaiting news of Sharon’s speedy recovery from surgery.
